How much does it cost to participate in the City Scholars program as a student from UIC or IIT?
Students will pay regular tuition to their home institution when participating in City Scholars.
What is the difference between this program and the traditional City Scholars program?
The main difference is that students from Illinois Tech and UIC who participate in City Scholars Program do not need to have a City Scholars sponsored internship to participate. All participating students may take the same courses (depending on prerequisites) an will participate in activities designed to connect you to Chicago’s growing tech sector.
Where will I live?
UIC and IIT students in the Startup City Scholars Program are encouraged to live somewhere with easy access to the loop and other locations in downtown Chicago. You may live on or off your home campus. If you are interested in different, downtown, living for this semester or in housing with other City Scholars students please let program staff know. The City Scholars program can assist students with finding student-friendly housing for the semester.
What classes will I take?
The key course for the City Scholars Program, TE 360/401 Lectures in Engineering Entrepreneurship will be taught at Discovery Partners Institute and may require some travel throughout downtown Chicago. Will I get paid?
No. Students participating in the City Scholars Program from DPI Partner Universities are not guaranteed a City Scholars internship for the Fall 2020 semester. Students will have the chance to meet and learn about companies large and small who are shaping Chicago’s tech world along with venture capital firms, vital cultural and civic institutions that are helping Chicago grow.
Where will my classes take place?
Classes that require in-person attendance will take place at Discovery Partners Institute, 200 S Wacker. Some travel throughout downtown Chicago is necessary for City Scholars activities and class visits.
