Fall 2020 City Scholars and COVID_19
We know that there is still a lot of uncertainty around the impacts of the COVID_19 emergency on student plans for summer and potentially fall 2020. We are preparing for Fall 2020 City Scholars as normal, including matching students with participating companies.

Here are a few program policy changes to help you navigate the Fall 2020 semester:

  • Scholars should register for classes on campus as usual, even if submitting City Scholars rankings. If selected we will get you into appropriate City Scholars classes.
  • Students should not attempt to find housing in Chicago until July 2020. City Scholars will help identify housing options.
  • If the COVID_19 emergency continues beyond July 2020, students will not be held to the same commitment rules for Fall 2020. We will issue new guidelines as conditions change.

Once interviews have been completed, you will be asked to rank your internship preferences. The ranking, which is the final step in the City Scholars process, is done online through a web form. More instructions on that process will be distributed by March 23rd. These preferences are due Friday, March 27th by 5:00pm. If you no longer wish to participate in the Fall 2020 cohort, simply notify the program via email and do not submit rankings to the algorithm.

Please note that submission of your preferences indicates your full intent to participate in the Fall 2020 City Scholars program if you are matched to any of the companies you rank. Only rank a company if you would commit to working there! You may not withdraw from the program after submitting your preferences. If you are matched with an internship, you will be notified of the internship match on April 1st, 2020.

To better understand the matching process, we suggest watching this video that describes a process like the one we use.

Submitting your rankings online

Step 1:
Login to the matching tool using your NetID and Password.

Step 2:
Beginning with 1, rank the internships positions with which you are interested in being matched (1=Most Interested).
Remember, any internship that you rank will be considered in the match. And, ranking an internship also indicates a commitment to the company, if matched. You are not required to rank all opportunities. However, ranking more internships increases the likelihood that you will be matched with an internship. You are not guaranteed internships as part of City Scholars.

Step 3:
Click on “Submit Ranks” button at the bottom of the page. Rankings are due no later than 5:00pm on March 27th. You may update your submitted rankings prior to the deadline. However, once the deadline has passed, you cannot adjust your rankings. If you miss the deadline, you will be ineligible to participate in the City Scholars program.
