“How public parks use the latest technology” was the topic of special tours of Millennium and Maggie Daley Parks. Dr. Scott Stewart, executive director of Millennium Park Foundation, explained to the City Scholars how they use data to monitor visitation and also explained much of the engineering behind the outdoor performance venue acoustics and how “The Bean” was created. Students were also given the chance to go on stage at the Pritzker Pavilion.
Nichole Sheehan, Capital Projects Manager for Planning & Construction at the Chicago Park District, led students through Maggie Daley Park and explained the renovation process that took place there. She also provided the students with insight into the lighting patterns for the park and how landscape architects designed the space to appear larger than it is.
