On the runways at O’Hare

The City Scholars visit to O’Hare was not just another rush through the busy airport terminals. Their special access tour was arranged by the Chicago Department of Aviation and took them on the actual runways, driving in a small tour bus behind airplanes taxing for takeoff. Students on the tour even had a chance to go inside the fuselage and cockpit of a 747 cargo plane that was being loaded for a flight to Tokyo. One student reported: “it was a once in a lifetime experience, and we all thought it exceeded our expectations.”
