Visits to incubators: MATTER, 1871 and mHUB

This semester, City Scholars have been provided with special tours of three of Chicago’s business incubators, focused on promoting new technologies.

The first visit was to MATTER: a space for entrepreneurs and innovators to work and grow their ideas into businesses determined to bring change to healthcare. Some of the City Scholars toured their space and learned more about the people working there.

Next up, City Scholars visited 1871, a space created to support Chicago’s digital startup community. Amelia Salter from the University of Illinois System Office of the Vice President for Economic Development and Innovation took the group through 1871’s space and shared with them the opportunities they have to participate in 1871’s events and resources as a current student.

The City Scholars’ visit to mHUB coincided with their one year anniversary celebration. mHUB is an innovation center focused on physical product development and manufacturing. Peggy Flavin, Member Relations Coordinator at mHUB and recent Illini graduate, led the tour.
